NYCON Names ShaKing Alston as Vice President of Metro New York Initiatives
New York, New York – October 2, 2007- ShaKing Alston has been appointed VP, Metro NY Initiatives for the New York Council of Nonprofits, Inc. Mr. Alston will be overseeing NYCON's regional office activities in the NYC area. Mr. Alston was formerly the Executive Director of the New York City Environmental Justice Alliance, a private, nonprofit, city-wide network of community-based organizations serving low-income neighborhoods, where he was responsible for program development, administration and fund raising.
Mr. Alston will provide leadership in developing NYCON's strategic alliance with the Manhattan-based Support Center of Nonprofit Management, Inc., with whom NYCON is co-located and engaging in a variety of cooperative services with. He will also be responsible for coordinating a number of other capacity building initiatives in the downstate region and providing direct organizational assistance to small and moderately sized nonprofit members of NYCON.

Don Crocker, CEO of the Support Center said, “ShaKing is a tremendous addition to our initiative with NYCON and will bring energy and focus to restructuring efforts we are exploring together. Mr. Alston has already developed strong working relationships with our senior staff and we are aggressively exploring ways to, together, enhance access to “outcomes-oriented” capacity building services for all nonprofit organizations, including small and mid-sized nonprofits.
