The New York State Joint Commission on Public Ethics will hold a hearing for the development of guidelines and regulations relating to new disclosure requirements for lobbyists and clients of lobbyists pursuant to The Public Integrity Reform Act of 2011.
Where: The hearing will be held at the Commission’s offices at 540 Broadway, Albany, NY 12207
When: Thursday, June 7, 2012 at 11:00 a.m.
What: Under the new law, lobbyists and clients are required to disclose “reportable business relationships” with elected officials and state employees. Also under the new law, certain lobbyists and clients will soon be required to disclose specific sources of funding for their lobbying activity. Public comment is an important component to the development of guidelines and regulations for the new reporting requirements.
The Commission recently sent out a request for written comments (due May 18) regarding these new disclosures, and presentations at the hearing will be limited to those individuals and entities who submit written comments. Due to the time and space constraints, the Commission reserves the right to limit the number of attendees and presenters, and the amount of time allotted for each presenter.
RSVP: Those wishing to attend should send an email by May 18 including the name(s) of proposed attendees, contact information, affiliated entity (if any) and include the term “hearing” in the subject line to jcope@jcope.ny.gov. In addition, those who have submitted written comments and wish to present, should indicate their request in the email.
