NYCON Launches New “Ombudsman” Program To Help Nonprofits Navigate New York State Contracting and Payments Process

Albany, NY—October 4, 2010 – NYCON is proud to launch a new and member exclusive initiative designed to help nonprofits understand and navigate the complexities of New York State’s contracting and payment process.

Working in conjunction with the New York State Comptroller, NYCON is now taking online inquiries from members regarding their unresolved contracting and/or payment issues with New York State. NYCON will be working closely with the Comptroller’s Office and other State agencies to help members get the information and answers they need regarding the contracting and payment process, the location of their particular contract or payment within that process, and the actions that need to be taken for the contract or payment to be executed. Aside from the direct benefit of the Ombudsman Program to members with inquiries, it is NYCON's intention that the program will over time improve the efficiency and timeliness of the State’s processing of nonprofit business.

The program will provide nonprofit members with:
  • Information including all of the requirements needed on your part in order to obtain contracts and payments in a timely manner
  • Accurate information as to specific location of your particular contract or payment voucher
  • Assistance in steering and facilitating your contract or payment voucher so that you can receive it in a timely manner

NYCON will take online submissions from nonprofit members for each contract or payment situation for which they are inquiring about. Once submitted, NYCON’s staff Ombudsman, Kevin Stadelmaier, Esq. will review and follow-up on the inquiry. NYCON is well aware of the frustration and sense of urgency that many nonprofits have with the New York State contracting and payment process. NYCON will make every effort, in the role of Ombudsman, to serve as a intermediary concerning nonprofits’ concerns and to inform and advise them accordingly.
