A month ago, The Strong National Museum of Play announced that its board of trustees had made its most important decision in decades.

Trustees had selected their board chairman, Steve Dubnik, to replace the museum’s outgoing chief executive, Rollie Adams, who's retiring Dec. 31 after 29 years on the job.

What wasn't announced was that the selection process was fraught with enough ethical lapses to make the board of one of the nation's premier children's museums look like The Mickey Mouse Club.

Most of the museum's 21 trustees were kept in the dark for months that their chief executive was leaving and that their chairman, who headed the committee tasked with finding a replacement, was himself angling for the $275,000-a-year job.
