Get to Know Your NYCON Staff: Julie Brannon

Each newsletter, we will be featuring one or two of NYCON's staff so that you can put a face to a name and get to know a little bit more about your friends at NYCON.  In this newsletter we are featuring our new Membership and Events Coordinator, Julie Brannon.

1) Hi Julie, welcome to NYCON!  Tell us a little about how you got your start in the nonprofit sector?

Hello, and thank you!  I began working at a YMCA in North Carolina right after I graduated high school.  Soon after I started I knew this was a place I wanted to stay.  I worked part time in sports and membership through college and was offered my first full time job as Membership Coordinator right after graduating college.  It was a great experience and I got to know so many different people from all walks of life.  A few years later I was promoted to Program Director where I got to work with youth and families in different programs at the YMCA.  I worked as Program Director until April 2017 where I moved to New York and started with NYCON in December.

2) That's awesome, New York has a lot of great organizations and agencies, why NYCON?

Nonprofit work has been engrained in me.  After having worked for the YMCA for many years, I knew I wanted to continue working with people and communities.  NYCON works with different organizations and connects them with resources and even each other to best help their needs.  I get to be right in the thick of that, which is something I am passionate about.

3) Well, speaking of passion.  Tell us a little bit more about what you're passionate about?

My biggest passion is connecting and helping other people.  Whether it's answering a simple question, following up on an inquiry or simply talking with you to get to know about you and your organization, it's important to me to make those connections.

4) Nonprofits need passionate people, that's great!  Let's get personal for a minute.  What do you like to do for fun, outside of work?

I love going to the movies.  I'd say at least 3-5 times a month we'll go see a movie at the movie theater.  There's something about the movie theater I've always loved.  I'm also a big fan of exploring new places and restaurants.  And being a recent transplant to NY I am always looking for suggestions!  I can't forget visiting my family and friends in North Carolina either!

5) That sounds like a lot of fun!  We'll end on a fun question, what is your favorite TV Show or Movie?

Well, I'd have to go with my all time favorite tv show, The Office.  Michael Scott is one of TV's best characters.  I'm always up to talk 'Office' or laugh at some of their jokes!

Thanks, Julie!  One last question.  How can NYCON members get a hold of you?

Not a problem, thank you for your time!  I can be reached best via email at or you can give me a call at (800)515-5012 ext. 126.
