Fab Five: Brittany Honeyman

Each newsletter, we will be featuring one or two of NYCON's staff so that you can put a face to a name and get to know a little bit more about your friends at NYCON by asking them FIVE, FABULOUS questions.  In this newsletter we are featuring, the newest NYCON Staff Member, Brittany Honeyman, Legal Services Coordinator.

Hi Brittany, welcome to NYCON!  Tell us about your title about your position at NYCON:

Hello! I started at in October of 2018 as the Legal Services Coordinator for NYCON, I provide legal support to the attorneys and members of NYCON. I help with member correspondence, tracking projects, and drafting documents on behalf of the attorneys of NYCON.

Tell us about your experience that brought you to NYCON:

My introduction to nonprofits came when I began working for the Boys and Girls Club of Southern Rensselaer County where I developed a passion for giving back to my community. This coupled with a longstanding fascination with the laws that govern our society let me to study Political Science in college with dreams of helping people in whatever way I could. After more than a year of working for the New York State legislature I decided it was time for me to go back to my roots and follow my passion for nonprofit work. I consider myself very lucky to have found a place at NYCON.

What 3 things do you have to have on your desk?

My water bottle, chapstick, and a good pen.

What are a few of your hobbies and things you enjoy doing outside of work?

I love to bake, the Great British Baking Show has inspired me to expand my skills outside of just desserts, hopefully bread is on the horizon! I also love reading, I tend to read quite a bit of fantasy and fiction, but in recent years have branched out into true crime and more non-fiction of all kinds. It has been fun varying my reading habits and learning new things from those books. I disc golf often, which is fairly equivalent to hiking, but I am always on board for something that gets me outdoors.

And the one question everyone gets asked, what is your favorite TV Show or Movie?

It is always such a struggle to pick just one. Some of my favorite TV shows are Stranger Things, Game of Thrones, and Chuck. And just a few of my favorite movies are Gangs of New York, Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, and High Fidelity, but that is just a drop in the bucket as an avid movie lover.
