Being a volunteer officer or board member now-a-days is a hard job that carries considerable responsibility, risk and sacrifice. Some of the challenges faced may be considered “par for the course” given predictable business and organizational transitional cycles, while others can be more reflective of or driven by power dynamics, personal relationships, or even personal agendas. In this facilitated workshop, which will include small group discussion, we will be sharing and talking about some of the real pitfalls of board service with practical strategies and tips as to how to successfully overcome them in the best interest of the organization’s mission and well-being.


About the Southern Tier Capacity Building Program: Nonprofit organizations with a Board Member in attendance at two of the six trainings offered in 2019 can apply for the Southern Tier Capacity Building Mini-Grant Program, as well as the Building Your Organizational Road Map Program. The Mini-Grant Program and Organizational Road Map assistance are supported by United Way of Broome County, The Stewart W. and Willma C. Hoyt Foundation, The Community Foundation for South Central New York and Conrad and Virginia Klee Foundation.
