Equity Issues in Designing Employer Sponsored Health Plans

Nonprofit employers and employees are becoming increasingly aware of how their compensation policies appropriately and fairly differentiate between employees based on position, qualifications, tenure, etc. This includes recognizing that compensation is not a matter of salary alone, but of “total compensation,” including health insurance coverage.

As you know, health insurance premiums are increasing dramatically each year.  For employers that contribute toward these premiums, be it for the individual, couple or family plans, these rising costs can create unintended disparities in total compensation.   This disparity is often accentuated by premiums annually increasing at a much greater percentage than salaries increase.  This can be a “charged” or “hot button” financial and human resource problem that can seriously impact budgets, influence employee morale, and cause shifts in employer contribution policies.

Join us in a lively peer-led panel discussion as to how employer health plans can foster or deter compensation equity, the important role that organizational values play, and what the policy and practice solutions may be.

In addition, attendees will be updated as to the latest status and immediate employer implications of the Affordable Care Act, the American Healthcare Act, and related changes by the State of New York.
