Part Time Educator-Capital Roots

Capital Roots’ Educator prepares and presents classes and workshops related to gardening, healthy meal preparation, food preservation and basic nutrition to our community gardeners and the general public as well as in collaboration with a range of community partners. The Educator also implements a 5 week nutrition education program for young children (Pre-K through 2nd grade) called the Taste Good Series which introduces children to new fruits and vegetables through fun and engaging activities and tastings.


Responsibilities Include:

  • Plan, prepare and present educational classes and workshops on a variety of garden and nutrition-related topics including healthy food preparation and food preservation
  • Conduct outreach to local elementary schools to inform and promote The Taste Good Series
  • Meet and communicate with community partners to plan, schedule and conduct educational programs
  • Provide direct assistance to community gardeners

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Gardening knowledge and experience required

Skills:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required
  • Passion and strong interest in healthy cooking, food preservation, and meal prep
  • Ability to juggle several projects simultaneously
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Comfort working with diverse populations
  • Displays initiative and thinks and acts creatively.
  • A willingness to roll up one's sleeves and contribute as needed to advance the program and organization

SALARY & BENEFITS:

  • This is a part-time position (20 hrs/week), paid at an hourly rate of $13-14/hr.
