Nonprofit Capacity Building Associate-NYCON

Summary
The New York Council of Nonprofits, Inc. (NYCON), is seeking a Nonprofit Capacity Building Associate to work out of our Poughkeepsie office. The position will provide a wide range of training and consulting services to our members, including: strategic planning, board development, fundraising planning, and general organizational assistance. Community planning, data collection, program development and evaluation, SPSS, and/or human resources experience a plus.


NYCON is a membership-based, mission-driven, statewide association of diverse charitable nonprofit organization that provides a collective policy voice for the nonprofit sector and serves as a crucial support and information provider to nonprofit organizations.


Job Responsibilities

  • Serve as an information resource to NYCON’s members
  • Assess client needs and develop project and cost proposals
  • Organize and provide in-person and web-based training and technical assistance to nonprofit organizations
  • Develop and customize training curriculum
  • Prepare grant applications and funding proposals, as assigned
  • Attend and report to NYCON board and committee meetings as appropriate and necessary
  • Assist in project management and facilitate internal communications
  • Represent NYCON’s interest at meetings, conferences, and other functions
  • Assist with planning and conducting community-based research activities, including needs assessments, data collection, program development, and program evaluation
  • Attend and/or provide staff support to community networks, coalitions, and other community meetings
  • Serve as a liaison to other community organizations and represent NYCON, as assigned
  • Perform other duties required to fulfill the goals and objectives of NYCON, as assigned

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, business, or community development required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in management and/or governance in the nonprofit sector
  • Strong group facilitation skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to travel regularly throughout NYS, sometimes overnight
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills
  • Ability to think creatively, work independently, and deliver high quality work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Knowledge of arts, health, and/or human services landscape
  • Microsoft Office Suite competency required; Salesforce and web-based meeting tools experience a plus
  • Previous training and technical assistance experience preferred
  • Previous grant writing experience preferred
  • Working vehicle and valid driver’s license required
