Grant Writer-OPERA America

Job Description

OPERA America is seeking a creative, passionate writer to champion the organization’s $1.5 million portfolio of foundation, corporate and government grants. As the national advocate for the art form, OPERA America relies on its institutional support to offer professional development, grantmaking and industry research to opera companies and artists across the country.

The successful candidate will be a nuanced and persuasive storyteller — someone who can interweave institutional history, strategic vision and deep understanding of program design into compelling narratives. They will oversee the grant calendar and monitor program activity in order to prepare reports and engage current funders. Additionally, the Manager will actively identify and cultivate new funders to help support OPERA America’s growing breadth of service. The Manager may also assist other department staff with events, including an occasional evening or weekend activity.

OPERA America seeks a candidate with strong command of the English language; swift drafting and solid editing skills; openness to a collaborative writing process; ability to write for and communicate with varying audiences; impeccable time management; understanding of budgets and program design; and a detail-oriented, efficient and resourceful work ethic.

Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in grant writing. Expertise desired in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, mail merge), Adobe Acrobat and database software.

Salary commensurate with experience, expected in mid- to high-$50Ks range. Excellent benefits package including health and dental coverage, pension, paid time off, life insurance, flexible/remote work hours and access to rehearsal/performance venue. (Potential for position to be filled on a part-time basis.)

Desired start date by August 1.
