Fundraiser-Project Rhythm

We are an international music education non-profit (501c3) based in New York. We bring cutting edge music technology into classrooms to allow students to produce their own original songs. We teach life skills and social-emotional learning through the process of collaborative song creation. We have grown a lot over the last five years, utilizing the skill sets of our in-house team and personal network, and now we’re ready to take the next step. This is why we’re hiring a Fundraiser, to expand our staff, resources, and invest in the future growth of our organization to reach more students in more schools around the world.

About Us:

We used to run a major recording studio in Brooklyn, New York. We’ve distilled the knowledge we used to produce major artists (i.e. the music kids actually like, not the music adults want them to like) into a songwriting course.

We use students’ enthusiasm about learning how to make their favorite kinds of music to teach them valuable life skills, such as time management, social-emotional skills and teamwork.

We’ve brought our workshops to students around the world, and have reached more than 2,000 students so far.

We are a very small team and have been raising funds to grow the program ourselves. We’re looking to hire a Fundraiser to take over that portion of the work so we can continue to grow and stay focused on what we do best: reaching youth through music.

What You’ll Do:

  • Build and maintain relationships with prospective and current donors to create and grow a strong donor base.
  • Work with board members to raise funds from their networks.
  • Organize activities to raise funds or otherwise solicit and gather monetary donations or other gifts for Project Rhythm.
  • Design and produce promotional materials, and/or work with vendors to do so.
  • Raise awareness of the organization's work, goals and financial needs.

Job Duties and Tasks:

  • Develop year-to-year major gifts and fundraising strategy with Executive Director and Board.
  • Identify and build relationships with potential donors.
  • Develop strategies to encourage new or increased contributions.
  • Direct or supervise fundraising staff, including volunteer staff members.
  • Monitor budgets, expense reports, or other financial data for fundraising organizations. (Does “fundraising organizations” = Project Rhythm? What does this mean?)
  • Develop and implement fundraising activities, such as annual giving campaigns or direct mail programs.
  • Plan and direct special events for fundraising, such as silent auctions, dances, programs, walks, etc.
  • Write speeches, press releases, or other promotional materials to increase awareness of the cause, mission, and goals of Project Rhythm.
  • Conduct research to identify the goals, net worth and history of charitable donations, or other data related to potential donors, potential investors, or donor markets.
  • Write reports and prepare presentations to communicate fundraising program data.

What’s Required:

  • Communication skills. A fundraiser needs impeccable writing and communication skills in order to persuasively communicate the value of Project Rhythm so that people are excited to give. High emotional intelligence and personability is important.
  • Detail oriented. A fundraiser must be detail oriented to effectively and efficiently handle large volumes of data, including lists of people’s names and phone numbers, and must comply with state and federal regulations.
  • Leadership. A fundraiser may manage teams of volunteers and must be able to inspire their contributions to Project Rhythm.
  • Organizational skills. A fundraiser will manage campaigns and events that require planning and organizational skills to succeed.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Communication
