Director of Community Engagement-Tri-Cities Opera

DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Create and implement Yearly Marketing Plan:  Work with advertising agency to come up with a cohesive, budgeted marketing plan, adjusting course as needed to appropriately promote events contained in season across multimedia platforms.
  2. Advertising and Sponsorship Solicitation
    1. Identify potential sponsors and advertisers within the community

                                          i.    Create appropriate packages for both trade and financial contributions

                                         ii.    Liaise with BOD and development to identify appropriate candidates

                                        iii.    Monitor payment status

  1. Oversee Event Planning, Budgeting and Execution:
    1. Opera Previews
    2. Fundraisers
    3. Press conferences
    4. Patron Experiences
    5. Conferences
    6. Community events
    7. Oversee maintenance of company’s online presence
      1. Website: Maintain or delegate maintenance to keep information up to date
      2. Social Media: Maintain or delegate maintenance of company’s social media accounts to create engaging content and promote company events
      3. Oversee execution of Google AdWords grant
      4. Program editing
        1. Design, layout, editing of four major program books
        2. Design, layout, editing of programs for smaller events.
        3. Supervise box office operations:
          1. Creation of subscription packages
          2. Customer service and protocols for discounts and giveaways
          3. Seating charts and zone pricing
          4. Supervise Educational Outreach
            1. Opera-Go-Round
            2. Oversee and collaborate with Community Engagement Associate to create development plans and fundraising campaigns. 
            3. OpShop
              1. Develop and maintain “opera is the new black” merchandise stream
              2. Identify other branded merchandising opportunities
              3. Liaise with the General Director in the creation of the annual Community Engagement Budget (income and expense)
              4. Monitor Community Engagement Budget regularly for compliance to budget

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Liaise with local media entities to create opportunities for free press coverage
    • Interviews
    • Sweepstakes
    • PSA’s
    • Coordinate with stage manager and company photographer to arrange publicity photo shoots
    • Solicit, train and manage company interns
    • Liaison to Tri-Cities Opera Guild to help identify and communicate opportunities.
    • Participate in meetings, conferences, and project team activities.
    • Help plan for ample volunteer and staff support at all functions of the organization including special events for fundraising purposes.

Requirements 

Management and delegation skills, and creative, problem-solving abilities are of the utmost importance. Advanced oral and written communication skills are required as well as excellent attention to detail with significant organizational, planning and budgeting capabilities.  Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Publisher, Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) a must. Knowledge of email marketing (Constant Contact preferred) and online fundraising (Network For Good preferred) platforms. Proficiency in the use of box-office, development, contact relationship management and marketing list segmentation software (ChoiceCRM preferred). Proficiency in web design (WordPress preferred). Knowledge of the operatic repertoire, languages and traditions desirable. Proficiency in photo editing/graphic design software (Adobe PhotoShop Elements orGIMP) desirable. 

Bachelor’s degree in arts or business related field required. Master’s degree in business, arts administration or public administration preferred.  Drivers license required.
